Digg it!

Among Fables and Men is the story about one man who suddenly awakes in the middle of an unknown forest, without any memories of how he got there or who he really is...

Experimental machinima is probably the most suiting term for this project. Nothing is actually filmed, but is solely compositioned. Not using animations was a deliberate choice for the art style of the movie, which was a bit inspired by the Newgrounds flash series 'Thamesis'.

Though, the original inspiration for the story came mostly from listening on Nurykabe's music (which you can hear in the movie), but there's also a few hints of Alice in Wonderland (the book, not the Disney cartoon).

In total, it took roughly 10 days to complete the entire movie, with a extreme loss of sleep towards the end of the project. I think I've only slept ~10 hours in total during the last 5 days...

Animations wasn't the only thing that was left out by choice, but we deliberately didn't use any voice overs or text either. Well, except for credits and titles of course. The reasoning for this was that we wanted it to speak through the visuals rather than being told to the viewer. It's of course freely up to each individual to translate the story from his own perspective.

So speaking about visual imagery, my scenes were solely compositioned in Adobe After Effects CS3 and Malu05 used Fusion for his ones. Those familiar with the VideoCopilot will recognize some assets used from his products (for example some of the sounds).

Adding the sound and making the final scene layouts were done in Sony Vegas 7.0.

In a sense, this is my first 'real' machinima, and the first time I've done anything in Adobe After Effects that's longer than 15sec. As I've mentioned, this video got a very special style to it, and I'm sure it won't be to everyones taste, but then again, if a few likes it, that's good enough for me :)

I guess I covered most of the basic questions for now, so if you haven't done so already, go ahead and watch it now!
